What is happening in Budapest at the World Swimming Championships?

​Russian athletes returned to international competitions. 27 Russians were officially allowed to participate in the World Short Course Championships in Budapest. The World Cup runs from December 10 to December 15.

"Gold" in the mixed combined relay

Russian athletes won gold in the 4×50-meter combined relay in short-course swimming, setting a European record of 1.35.36. The team consisted of Miron Lifintsev, Kirill Prigoda, Arina Surkova and Daria Trofimova. The silver medals were shared by the national teams of Canada and Japan, and the "bronze" went to the USA team.

The Triumph of Miron Lifintsev

Russian swimmer Miron Lifintsev won the gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the World Short Course Championships. The athlete covered the distance in 48.76 seconds. Miron set a junior world record and brought the team the first "gold" at the tournament in 1087 days. Then Kolesnikov, Strelnikov, Minakov and Morozov shared the "gold" with the Americans.

Kirill Prigoda's record

Russian swimmer Kirill Prigoda has updated the country's record for short-water swimming in the 100-meter breaststroke.Kirill swam the 100-meter distance in 55.82 seconds in the preliminary heat. This result allowed him to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition from the first place.

In addition, Prigoda broke his own record, set on November 22 at the competition in St. Petersburg - 55.95 seconds.

Note that all the results are available on the website of the International Federation of Water Sports (World Aquatics). World Aquatics has softened the criteria for admission to competitions for Russians. Russian athletes can now compete in international synchronized swimming tournaments, as well as in group disciplines in swimming and diving. Restrictions on individual starts have also been lifted in swimming.
